Default No acceleration while driving

98 Civic DX. Very intermittently, I will be driving and the accelerator pedal stops powering the car. The car will then coast to a stop. The engine is still running, the air conditioner blower is still blowing, the brakes work and the radio still plays. The only way to get power back to the pedal is to restart the engine, then I get power back to the accelerator power immediately.

My mechanic is stumped. They have looked at all electric connections and replaced some and everything checks out, but I still have the problem.

It seems like this happens more frequently on hot days.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't get an engine light. The lights are functional. I get them when the car starts.
