Default no throttle response at high speeds? automatic honda civic

hi,

so i am traveling at 40-50mph and it is quite normal getting up to those speeds. however sometimes when i am traveling at those speeds and i release the accelerater completely then notice the speed limit go to 60mph and i engage the accelerator to speed up past 40-50mph i notice it doesn't do anything until i really press down on it. I don't hear the engine rev until i have pressed it down fairly far. i guess this doesn't necessarily mean the engine isn't working but it just feels a tad odd. when the pedal is pressed pretty far down then i start to hear the engine rev and then the speed increases...is this normal?

Hi,

also if it helps i have had no check engine lights recently. I did have a cylinder 2 misfire a while back after i changed the fuel filter but it hasn't come up again. I also had a check engine light a while back that said "cat efficiency below threshold" but i replaced the o2 sensors and it hasn't come back.

I'm thinking the problem may have to do with the TP sensor but from what i've heard this should throw a cel light which i am not seeing. is this true?

could it be a IAC valve problem? a map sensor problem? shouldn't these all set a cel light if it was the case?

GEEZE...no one? really?

c'mon, at the very least you guys could tell me if you're experiencing the same thing.

When you reach 40-50mph and you completely release the gas pedal do you need to depress the pedal pretty far to accelerate beyond 40-50mph?

it's not like i'm asking you how to rebuild a freakin engine here.

If it's a distributor model, you should check the spark timing. That can kill performance with no CEL.

Don't expect a stock automatic Civic to be very fast in the first place though.

probably not it but you could also check the throttle cable. but like mk378 said those cars are not gonna have much pick up around there and automatics have weird shift points sometimes, could reset ECU or replace or tune it but that could be costly and not really help.
