Mechanical Problems & Technical ChatIf you've got a problem you just can't figure out, a noise you can't diagnose, or a check engine light that won't go away, ask about it here!
only when i first turn my car on in the morning i vtec does not change over but after it warms up it is fine. i dont have a knock sensor but can that be the problem?
yeah, its a safety design. it wont use the changeover unless its warmed enough to go into open loop and use the info from the sensors. (i may have open/closed mixed up)
The sound coming from the engine should change when it kicks in. It should become significantly louder on DOHC engines, but it's sometimes hard to tell on SOHC engines.
You can definetly hear it if you know what you are listening for. It should kick on between 5k and 6k rpm. The sound is kind of hard to explain. It sounds more.....oh, how do I put this.....mechanical?
