Default O2 Sensor

So my good friend works as a mechanic for our local Greensburg Honda Dealership and since about Mid July my check engine light has been on, but I ignored it for some time.

Well he finally checked it for me with those plug in devices and it read: O2 sensor malfunction. So obviously I need to replace my O2 sensor and he said it would run around $60.

What kind of job am I getting myself into replacing it myself?

Is it the O2 sensor before or after the cat? Either way they are both easy to replace. You just have to unplug it and unsrew it from the pipe and screw a new one in and plug it back in. But if it is the one after the cat its not always the O2 sensor. It could be a bad cat.

A bad connection could also give the code, make sure the wire isn't loose.

Yes find out which sensor it is, as your car has two. Shop around, but it's usually about a $60 part to buy it yourself. Sounds like he's offering to replace it at cost.

Generic O2 sensors can run about 1/2 that price, but getting them out can be a real PITA sometimes.
If you screw it up it might cost way more than that.
