Default Oil Behind Distributor?

When replacing the distributor on my Del Sol D16Z6, I noticed a small pool of oil under the distributor coupler fork.

Not much...maybe a fingernail sized puddle...but enough to drip out on the tranny some.

The oring seals it fine, but I wouldn't think there would be oil so close to electrical components by design.

Is this normal?

That is normal, that space is part of the area under the valve cover with lots of oil. There is a shaft seal in the base of the distributor to keep oil from getting to the electrical parts

Oil should be on the shaft only and not drip to outside. Internal oil seal might be worn.

I was replacing the distributor, and noticed the oil when I removed it.

I installed a reman distributor, so hopefully that one has a new shaft seal...and the outside oring was new.

With the new distributor installed, no signs of oil leakage.
