hey guys i have been having trouble with oil leaking for some time now and i have just been adding oil but i decided to try to fix it now...to me it looks like it could just be my oil pan gasket but i have heard it could be somthing worse like the crank seal or somthing (i forget what someoen told me it could be)..i took some pics hopfuly someone can help me..i think its my oilpan gasket..any help or advice is greatly appreciated

Take the timing cover(s) off and have a look behind them. Then you'll be able to determine if the seals are bad.

 

mine looks like that too, and i also leak oil from the oil filter.

 

ill have a look tomorrow again...yea i checked the oil filter and it was tight and everything...its dark now ill look again tomorrow..thanks

 

retorque the oil pan gaskets. almost every honda ive ever worked on, theyve gotten loose. give them a little snug up, and it could stop it.

 

ok i did that this morning and they were definatly loose...but i think its still leaking a little bit...i washed the whole underside of the motor and trans so im gunna wait for it to dry up out there and look at it again....is the timing belt cover (bottom half) right behind the crank pully?..i pused against wat seemed to be a plastic cover and oil like gushed out a little does that help a diognosis at all?.,,thanks

 

i think those gaskets are like 15 bucks, just replace it, for the peace of mind.

 

ohbi how did u wash it?

 

i had my car up on ramps and i layed down there and sprayed it with degreaser and let it sit for a few...then took the hose aand blasted the entire underside of the motor, tranny and then used the "shower" part of the nosel and gave it a bath..lol...i did it a couple of times

 

BTW, its not always a good idea to wash an older motor, a lot of times, the grease is holding the leaks closed, and it can make them leak worse. but thats not a good way to FIX the problem, just a good way to postpone it. i guess im just sayin not to wash it till youre ready to fix any leaks that may arise.
