well the problem now is that the mechanic is about 30 mins away and my car not working......i dont think he will come to my garage and work on it, as for my car itself, i tried to turn it on and it seemd like it wanted to "but!" it then sputterd and died imediatly as if it were outa fuel...i do have 1/2 tank in it so if it is fuel i will start checking injectors first. o and thers a funky smell coming outta intake, kinda like fuel but stronger, a bit like vodka or starting fluid

What work did the mechanic do on your car? This information could help.

When's the last time the fuel filter was replaced? I had a similar problem on my car when i got it, (the car would start sometimes, but wouldn't start all the time, but did seem like it was starting but wouldn't turn over)so i decided to start by changing out parts that needed to be replaced then or soon. First thing i replaced was the fuel filter, and it immediately solved my problem.

I definitely give the mechanic credit for honesty; however, I think he showed a complete lack of judgment in being okay with the idea of driving the car home.
i agree , but if i were the mechanic i would have taken the pan down got the bolt out &put backon with a new gasket & oil(at no cost to you) & said nothing

The speedo doesn't read from the engine it is from the transmission and it works the same way no matter what tranny you are using I think. If you want to swap in a k20 then you need about $8k just fyi.
