One wiper doesn't work
It could be the linkage assembly or the nut on the wiper arm is loose. It could also me that the wiper are is striped out. Check the nut first if that tight i would pull the arm off and see if its striped. If its not than check the assembly. Always start with the easyest stuff first.
Those are definitely more appealing possibilities.
Try just teghtening the nut first. It needs to be tight but not super tight. If that doesn't solve it, take the nut and arm off, turn wipers on and watch if the shaft is moving. If not, bad linkage.
There is one motor that works both wipers. I think on the 97 the motor is on the drivers side and moves that one first, then the two wipers are linked together.
