Outside temperature reading???
Hi all,
I have a 2012 Honda Civic LX and something happened today that is out of the ordinary.
Today, for the first time, an outside temperature reading showed up on the bottom left of my dash right beside the odometer reading. For one, it's stuck at -40 degrees. For two, it's not -40 outside. Finally, a temperature never even showed up here before. I didn't even know this feature existed in my model and was under the impression it didn't exist for the LX. I've had this car for 2 years now.
Does anybody have an idea of why this has suddenly happened and what it could be? Any help would be appreciated.

If you do not have the feature on your LX then you may need to reset the computer.
On the other hand, we have a 2007 EX with the OAT feature. My guess is that it uses a NTC (Negative Temperature Coef) Thermistor and the wiring to the device would be an open circuit for a default reading of -40C.

Resetting computer is a very easy thing to do. Just disconnect the NEGATIVE battery cable and let it sit for a few hours, maybe overnight. There is a faster way but I do not want to take the risk that you may misunderstand my instructions.
