Default over heating and leaking... help

ok. so i will warn you before you read on. I DONT HARDLY ANYTHING ABOUT CARS. So, the other day my heater hose got a hole in it, started over heating. i fixed it 5 min after it started. now today, driving down the road and the temp goes sky high. look under the hood and this part is leaking water and making a sound like steam coming out. the part is something i dont know the name of. dont know what it does. so here is two pictures of the engine. (not of my car btw). the part in the circle is the part the rest is shaded out. if anyone can tell me what it is... does.. how to fix id greatly appreciate it. i need my car by tomorrow night because i work for pop a lock and must drive this vehicle.
