Overheating issue that I yet to about
take the thermostat out and see if it still overheats. if it does then theres your problem. they have little bearings in them and sometimes they get stuck closed. and sometimes when you buy new ones there are duds, so before you buy one take the thermostat out and reconnect everything but let it cool down all the way before you drive it again. i had this exact same problem with a b2200.
you might have a blockage in the block itself also. go buy some peak performance block cleaner. itll clean it out but do it on a day where you can drive for a while. you drain your radiator, close the petcock, pour the block cleaner in, run your car for 3-6 hours nonstop with the heater on full, so roll ya windows down, and then drain it and run 50/50 coolant in it not the pink bull****. then your block will be clean. and if it doesnt fix it at least you have a clean block.
Another thing that happened to my car was the little fins on the outside (air side) of the radiator tubes corroded and came loose. Without those, the radiator has little heat transfer performance even with the fan running. For me though it was overheating at speed too.
And once you get it full, let the engine get cold and take the radiator cap off again. Start the engine and rev it. If bubbles come out of the radiator steadily, the head gasket is leaking. This is the only symptom of a small leak. The gas will form a pocket in the top of the engine and prevent the coolant from circulating at idle speed. You will also know that is happening because the heater will not work at idle speed, even though the engine is hot.

well i left the sob parked for 20 minutes on idle never overheated drove it around mashing it for 20 minutes then sit didnt overheat either i loosen the bolt to let the air out nothing but water came out.... I am going to take that thermostat out the whole thing this time it was to get to one of the bolts any shortcuts
Properly bleed the system, there are very detailed threads on that in here. Next as the other guy said check for air bubbles with the cap on. That is not always a fool proof diagnosis though. I just went through a blown headgasket overheating issue. If you see no bubbles call your local radiator sales company. They will have a carbon monoxide dye detection system to diagnose exhaust in the cooling system. Test ran me 20 dollars and took 5 minutes. If that tests good no leaks, than you have a flow issue. More than likely the prop on the water pump is become too warn or the housing is corroded or restricted. Or the feed pipe/hose is collapsing. This is all assuming your fan is kicking on and functioning
Yeah rest assure i got that fan blowing i woukd like to remove the thermostat but those bolts close to the block is impossible to get a grip on. I would like to test the head gasket and if its the head gasket is there any walkthrough through here i am use to working on sbc there a bit easier since they provide more working room. I would like to get the test done but i am vacationing in the middle of nowhere 800 miles from home and yes the car made it that far
