Default overheating when at a stop

Hello everyone!

I have a 95 2 door honda vtech
1.6L SOHC auto

this is my problem, It started with a burn hose i had replace and like a stack of dominos everything just fell apart.
My car was overheating and the coolant was going to the resivor and my gauge was above the H level.
well anyways this is what i did to try to fix it
1. change all hoses
2. check fan
3. changed thermo
4. change ECT and the fan switch
5. fluch coolant
6. replace rad
7. bleed the system
8. check water pump
9 check oil for any coolant
10. change all belts including timing belt
11. check all fuses except the relay

Ok now that is said and done this is what is happening when i am driving on the highway everything is normal but when iam in a red light or at a stand still for some time the car tends to overheat and when i start to drive agiain the temp goes back down.

I do have coolant so there is no coolant lost as far as a head gasket broken i dont know if it is. When i took it to a mech he said no.

So please some one help me fix this problem before I trash the car! [:@]

If you're gonna trash the car, give it to me. I'll take it away FREE.

my fan fuse burned out on the very side edge where you couldnt see it how you would normally check them, so you might want to recheck it, or even just replace it. that cost me a few hundred bucks in the long run, due to the overheating problems it caused.

Is there a fan relay that might be acting up as well? That happened in my trck but I never got so hot that it hurt. The gage certainly rose though. Turned out to be a relay.

ahh crap. i need to read closer.

does it only do it when you are sitting, then it cools back down when you start moving? if so, make sure your fan works. if so, the coolant going into the resevoir might be a sign of a bad rad cap. it can let coolant out, and not pull it back in, eventually running the radiator low enough to overheat.

You see i travel at least 500 miles a week. i change my oil sometimes every month and do routine check up on my car. However my car tends to overheat after driving so long and then when i come to a stop; the temp starts to rasie up. the fan sometimes take long to kick on and the coolant goes to resoivor. everything under my hood (only the coolant system) is new: rad, hoses, belts, driving belt, cap, and sensors.

I was thinking and let me know if iam wrong but a guy told me to change my converter, i ask him why and he said that it maybe making my engine to overheat.

So i might change the headers and throw in a catback in the honda and see how that does.

headers and a catback are not connected to your cat converter, if that is what you are trying to do. they are all different components. I have never heard of the cat causing a car to overheat.

Try doing a compression check. See if anything is out of the ordinary. When my head gasket had a small leak, the temp would rise pretty high and then drop back to normal for no apparent reason.

Take it to a shop and have them pressure test your cooling system. Whether it is a head gasket or a very fine pin hole in a hose. If your system does not pressurize properly it will run hot and possibly over heat (especially when sitting still).

I once had a customer get pissed at me because her car was overheating and all I did was tighten a hose clamp after testing the system, when she had spent tons of money at another shop replacing this and that, so how could it be just a loose hose clamp. A month later her brother told me that fixed the problem.

yknow, i used to have one of those pressure testers, but it didnt fit a honda rad, and i havent ever seen one that would, i guess i need to start looking. that is a good thing to have around.
