hey guys im a new honda civic owner(first car) and im having some problems im hoping this community can help with.
everyone says its blown head gasket since its white smoke from hood.
just today engine started malfunctioning, at first just made not working noise when turning key in ignition.
after engine started after several attempts, car is shaky, not sounding right.
now my engine just gives up when the white smoke from hood appears.
also water is leaking from distributor area.i have to keep refilling water tank.
its a 99 civic coupe with a d16y8
as a broke college student it would be great if i can repair cheap as possible.
best place to buy legitimate parts? online parts store, junkyard, craigslist?
anyone know a good mechanic? i live in OC/LA so-cali
i checked for fault codes on my torque app. code p1457 evap came up.
then my friend used his more legit scan tool and code p0505 came up.
now there is no check engine light at all, i didnt disconnect engine either.
which fault code should i go after? both? neither?
is this related to my overheating head gasket issue?

Blown head gaskets often cause lots of white smoke from the tailpipe.

White smoke from under the hood is usually just a coolant leak. You may need to remove distributor (mark timing position first) to find exactly where the coolant(*) is coming out. Hopefully it's just a hose. I think one of the heater hoses comes in under the distributor.

Don't worry about codes yet. You have to make sure the engine stays properly cooled or severe damage will occur.

(*)Of course you have to use antifreeze mixture not plain water. Plain water will cause major corrosion inside the engine if left in the system for more than a short time.
