On my Civic, the second one went bad a couple years ago. I still have the original O2 sensor before the CAT. This pre CAT sensor cost close 400 dollars, so I'm waiting for the possible moment to replace it. Oh, I have close to 280,000 miles on the clock.

um..........an o2 sensor doesn't cost 400 dollars, unless you're rolling around in a benz.

It sure does, I have a 97 HX. If I would known this when I bought my car, I would have bought an EX.

who charged you 400 dollars for an o2 sensor? if you really paid that much, you either weren't thinking at the time, or you just got scammed like crazy. you can get them and installed for around 100 bucks.

Check out the link for the O2 sensor. 457.00 for retail and 320.00 discount. The 400 dollar figure was off the top my head when I last check last year.

that's the same site I used, I don't know why the price doubles when you change your transmission type.

I'm glad I didn't have to replace my O2 sensor, I'm still using the original one. I did replace the one after the CAT which is the cheaper one. There were only three items that I had to fixed or repair for smog were the O2 sensor after the CAT, the famous cracked exhaust manifold with the welded CAT (CA Emission), and the clogged EGR tubes. The HX model is unique, because some of parts that are only used in this model are quite expensive especially that I live in California. If I was in another state that had a more lenient smog laws, I could of use a two piece exhaust manifold and CAT.

Me neither, all I know that there are additional wires theO2 sensor. In the future, I probablyuse a differentengine andthe transmission when my HX motor gives up to ghost.
