Unhappy Pecking noise.

Traded my 95 DX for a 92 Hatch SI with a ZC dohc block and a 1.5 single cam head non-vtec. It makes me sick how rough it sounds. It honestly sounds like a knock and its throwing a CEL. It's been checked by a couple different mechanics though. They listened to it (one even stuck his head next to the block and they said it's just the valves needing adjustment saying that that is whats calling the CEL. I've heard knocks before. (D16Z6 with bad rod bearing). It sounds like that only not as loud. I'm taking it to The Shop in Kingsport TN in the morning. See what they say. Anyone have an idea??

It's very simple to adjust the valves, just do it anyway. But that is unlikely to be what's causing the CEL.

So, if that doesn't take care of it and it's a rod knock, should I swap the engine? $890 for a ZC DOHC. or should I just rebuild it? and where could I get a rebuild kit for the ZC?
