First off...

2002 Honda Civic dx 5spd
190000 miles
All stock except for intake and exhaust, wheels, and cf trunk.

Now, ive been driving this car for about 3 years now and the problem started within the first 6 months of driving it.

The problem first started in 5th gear. When im accelerating everything is fine, but when i deccelerate, or let go of the gas, it would pop out of gear. I cant just hold the clutch in and then push it back, i have to pull it back into neutral then let go of the clutch pedal AND THEN i have to push the clutch pedal down and shift back into 5th. After a month, this started happening to 3rd

gear.
I can never downshift into 3rd unless im trying to accelerate.
4th gear acts like it wants to pop out, but then something stops it , and it doesnt pop out.

Its so frustrating because this car is so perfect other than this problem, and every time a slow car is infront of me going 30 i cant put it in 3rd so i euther have to put it in 4th and slam on the gas just to maintain going 30, or i have to drop it in 2nd and raise the rpm more than i want it at and waste gas.

I forgot how it was like to have 3rd gear lol!

It sounds like a trans problem to me, but then again i am a newb to cars.

I always get a mechanics opinion on stuff like that.

I wish you luck...trans problems are usually not good.

 

Pop out usually cause by worn shift fork and/or ring, fork wear on the part that attached to the guider, better off finding another used tranny. Unless you want to fiddle with it, then measure the shift fork thickness, if worn out of spec, then you can dap a bit of weld on it and resurface/grind to spec.

 

Popping out of gear can also result from bad motor mounts. When the engine / transmission assembly is able to move around far enough, it will pull on the shift linkage.
