Default Power on the ground?

ok I will try to be as detail as possible,
Car broke down on the side of the street
Wont start
fuse ok
power on starter.
Turn the key, nothing happen no crank, but not all the light come up. only the park light and the brake light will come on.
jump the starter, nothing happen, not even spark.

Then this is the weirdest thing ever.
There is power on the ground. Meaning if you take the test light from battery negative pos and test on the body ground. The light will come up. I know it is short to ground, but where usually?

Car still on the side of the street. if any body know anything like that happen, please let me know. Thanks

If the test light comes lit with negative cable still in place, on the post and the body/engine, there is a open circuit somewhere on that installation. I would look for corrosion, broken cable and terminal ends.

Good luck to you.

Yes if you have a voltage difference between the battery (-) and the body or engine, that means the main ground circuit is open. Bad connection of the ground wire either at the battery terminal or one of the ground points.

...Have you checked your distributor lately? Check it out for open wires..those tend to crack after a while.

Starter fails to crank (i.e. nothing happens when you turn the key) has nothing to do with the distributor.
