Default Power Steering/Manual Steering Rack

Been searching for this on here and just with the big search engines. Haven't found anything on this yet.

I see a lot of these threads on turbos and having to remove the power steering pump. Is this what people simply do? Doesn't not having your power steering pump running damage the rack? If you can just remove the power steering pump, reservoir and plug the lines this will be my next mileage increasing project

Thanks for feedback

yea you can just remove the pump and plug the lines, all the pump does is to assist the drivers steering, the actual steering is gear to gear not by fluid pressure.

You could just remove the belt first to see how it's going to drive without power. It seems to me that there would be some slack in the steering compared to having a manual rack, but I have not actually tried it.

i can say i have done it, my rack was leaking power steering fluid so i removed the pump and drove for over 2 years without any problems.

F'in awesome! Thanks guys. MK, I'll try that and see how it does.

Always been a little jealous of my buddy's saturn. He bought a manual steering rack for it and PS/AC serp delete belt. Gets like 3 mpg better now.
