is there slop in your belts? check to see if its tight. if not tighten it and see if it goes away. if its cracked. buy a new one there cheap. if the problem remains check to see if your power steering pump is going. could be a number of things, water pump, oil pump, AC pump etc.

Yeah check all the belts for slack. While you're at it check for cracks in the belts. Takes a second but most people overlook it..

Yeah tighten those suckers as tight as you can...But not too tight if they're old..but if they're old they should be replaced already. To check the slack, turn the belt with your hand from side to side...it should not go beyond a 1/2 turn.

The alternator is the one that will squeal on startup. Normally the alternator draws a lot of power when first started, as it needs to recharge the battery. The power steering belt is most stressed when you turn the steering all the way to one side, and the air conditioner belt, naturally with the air conditioner on.
