Default Quick way to fix a dent with scratches.

Not sure if this is posted in the right forum, so please don't flame me. I ran over a large curb and made a dent on the lower left side. It's right underneath driver's side door. The curb also scraped off some of the paint and the rubberish material that's protecting the bottom of the car.The size of the dent is (~5"-8" long and ~2-3" wide). It's not very visible because it's almost on the bottom. Can't find my camera so can't post pics... I'm pretty low on budget so I can't take it the shop and get it fixed by pros, but I do need to get it fixed because the metal is begining to rust in the areas where the paint was scraped off. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure whether this would apply to how big that is...
but i was always told when you have little paint chips, to put clear nail polish on it, because it seals water from getting in it... so i guess that'd be a lot of nail polish, but keep it from rusting

Nail polish would eventually pill off though. I live in the central California and the temperature can get pretty high in the summer, I don't think the nail polish can handle that. Also I drive to Washington a lot and it rains like hell over there.
