raw fuel smell in 1989 CRX
Good morning all:
I have a raw fuel smell from the CRX that I purchased (HF model) and I was wondering if anyone has a been-there-done-that fix, or, any suggestions as to cause.
It doesn't SEEM to require the engine to run, although the engine compartment may smell more when the engine is running (hard to pinpoint though).
I just passed state emissions testing, while not stellar the emissions passed comfortably.
While not sure, I would expect fuel mileage to be better in this car (I'm getting ~36mpg).
I looked through the search posts but didn't see anything conclusive. One said to 'blow back through the return line after removing the gas cap'. How exactly is that done?
As always, any help appreciated and Happy New Year!

check your fittings on your fuel rail. try to pinpoint the location by wiping the engine down with a clean white cloth. maybe paper towels. an injector o-ring could be bad, loose connection between the fuel rail and the fuel line. there are numerous things, but following the fuel system until you find the leak should be relatively simple.
After posting that I did see a wet base to at least one injector (thanks again to MBrent) I purchased seals from Honda. Per the manual there was one O ring, one seal, and one base seal. Upon removal of the injectors I found one cracked pintle cap while cleaning. I then searched for pintle caps and ordered some from injector-rehab.com. While there I noted that they had entire seal kits, including the screen on the inlet, for all four injectors for less money than I paid for just the 12 seals from Honda. The pintle caps and screens showed up promptly and packed well. No problems upon reassembly and the smell of raw fuel has completely gone away.
Hope this helps.

Update:
After rebuilding all four injectors I noted that the fuel smell did not go away. No surprise really, as I didn't find a smoking gun in the form of nicked O' ring or anything like that. The final fix was a new injector in the #1 hole.
