rear axle removal? (bended)
 

Hi All!

Anyone knows if I need to remove the trailing arm in order to get that little rear axle out?

Brief: The person that used to have it banged it on a side walk (he lost control in the snow and landed on a high beamed side walk). The wheel was bended. So when I removed the rear bearing, I could see that the shaft (or axle) is bended...

What rear axle? Lower control arm? Hub?

The hub. Basically, its the shaft that bolts the bearing(32mm nut).

Removed dust cap, removed the 32mm bolt, removed bearing and I see the shaft (not sure its the right term) is crooked. Want to replace it...

Can you take a picture? It's been a couple of years since I've been in that area of a civic.

Nasty looking knuckle.

There is no rear axle. It's an independent coil suspension setup. What you are looking at is just the thing that holds the knuckle together.

There are several torx bolts (star shaped) on the back side of it. I believe there are 4. Remove those and the whole knuckle comes off. It's MUCH easier if you just pull the whole trailing arm. That way, you can see the 4 torx bolts clearly. It's not as big a deal as you would think to pull the trailing arm off. You probably had a harder time taking the hub apart.

Alrighty then, I hope I will be able to remove the hand brake cable & brake line (tried it, rusty and seized!). Or maybe I won't need to, since that I never did that before, I will see and learn :)

Rebuilded a Blazer 95 last summer, so at least I know a little bit.

There are 3 or 4, I don't remember. But there are round holes in the metal. You'll see them. Be sure to have a jack stand under the car when you look under it. Don't use the scissor jack from the trunk.

What's bent is called the spindle, but you need to replace the entire trailing arm to fix.
