Default Rear-end Creak/Squeak when stopping

Recently bought a 96' LX, with 169K, automatic. When coming to a stop, and I mean JUST before you stop, there is a pulsed long creaking "errr....eeerrrrr......errrrrrrrrrr..eerrrthud " from what sounds like the rear passenger wheel. Im wondering about warped drums? Control arm bushings? Strut-tower bushings? I'm somewhat green around the gills still, so don't be afraid to point out obvious stuff. Again, it doesn't happen when I'm moving over 3-5mph, brakes or not. If I put the car in neutral, and let it coast to a stop, no noise. the creak is loudest at the very end of the stop, when the car finally settles.

any help would be great!

thanks

When was the last time you had your brakes checked? It does have drums on the rear correct? Have you gotten under it and done a visual check of eveything? Just look for the obvious stuff like a bolt loose, something bent or whatever.

Its been too wet here lately for me to get under it, but I figure with it having so many miles, I'd just get her new brakes all round. I ordered drums, shoes and hardware last night, hopefuly that'll get rid of the squeak.
