Default Rear hatch shocks

I need to replace the rear shocks that hold the hatch back glass open on my 92 civic dx. Do the shocks just pop off the ball, do just pry it a little bit? I don't want to break anything. Also where is a good place to buy the lift shocks. The dealer wants $95.00 each

NO they don't pop off, they are held in by a bolt that requires a 10mm wrench to take out. As for getting new ones, maybe a salvage yard, i went to Napa and they wanted $49 each for them, which is BS, and the stealership is called that for a reason

$95 each?? Dude, eBay is your friend. They are like $52 shipped for a pair of hatch shocks. As for the connection it's like he said, a bolt you have to undo. There is a black plug looking thing that goes outside and through the glass hole then a piece that plugs into that from the inside and a gasket then the hatch shock bolt screws into the black plug.

Very easy to do, I just had to do mine cuz the previous owner had somehow destroyed the black plug and decided to just try to hotglue the shock bolt to what was left of the plug. What a cheap bastard, the whole connection hardware kit from the dealer was only $20, geesh.

MY threads also stripped out. So the new lift shocks already have the ball with the threads attached?
