rear main seal?
I may be saying it wrong. Yesterday I went to the dealership to get an oil change and had the inspection. I was already aware I was leaking oil from the top a little bit. He said it's leaking from somewhere else too. I was told I was also leaking tranny fluid. He had a look on his face and said "its bad". I do remember my brother checking it for me a couple of weeks ago and having to add fluid (I think he might have added a bottle?). He said the rear main seal was bad, which is where the tran and engine come together, and is pricey to fix (due to labor).
Is this correct?

There is a seal on the transmission input shaft. If it fails, transmission fluid will drip out of the bottom between the transmission and the engine. A leaky rear main seal of the engine will cause motor oil to come out of the exact same place. So if you have an oily substance there, try to identify if it is motor oil, transmission fluid, or a mixture of both.
To replace either one, the transmission must be removed from the car.
Oil that leaked from the distributor or VTEC valve (if equipped, I think the 2001 LX does not have one) can run all the way down and look like a rear main seal leak.
