Default rear view mirror

I need to replace my rear view mirror. But, I have that metal bracket which the mirror slides on to it. My question is this....
How do I take that metal bracket off? Do I need to replace the whole windshield? I need help fast...

There is a metal piece glued to the windshield, and then the mirror bracket slides onto that metal piece and held on with a small screw (usually on the bottom edge of the bracket).

So unscrew the little screw, then slide the mirror bracket up off the metal piece.

Don't take that metal piece off, you need that on there for the new mirror. (It's glued onto the windshield.)

It needs to be replaced because part of it broke off. That's why it needs to come off. I heard if you take a heat gun to it, it will come off. Is that true???

This should have been your first post.

If you really need to remove it, I would put some solvent around it to loosen it up a bit, then give it a very sharp rap to the side and then it should break loose.

I used acetone to remove mine (not a Honda) and then used visegrips and gave it a twist...popped right off. The acetone removes the fillet of adhesive around the metal. Just be careful with acetone cuz if it drips on your dash it will mar plastic BIG TIME! I hear MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) also works.

I never could get the mirror to stick on as good as the factory installed mirror. They always fell off after 6 months or so.
