Default Removing the crank bolt

I have a '92 LX and I'm trying to remove the crank bolt. How the hell do you keep it from rotating? I don't see how these special pulley holding tools work because there's nothing in the pulley design to hold the tool!

well you could try some punches inside the holes in the crank pulley... if my air gun cannt take mine off thats preaty much what im gonna try... or if ya got a welder handy...... put some bolts into the holes... with a bar of metal across the bolts and weld them together... THE bolts and rod.. NOT THE PULLEY!
then youll have like a little tool to hold the pulley and then just brace it against something like the motor mount or like a jackstand

but if ya dont have a welder or scrap steel laying around you could use a drill and some metal bracing and bolt the bolts to the steel plate preaty much same way as welding...

if ya understand what i mean..... will take more time hell ya... BUT should also work. and if you want to you can always just buy a new crank pulley....

Funny, the chilton repair guide say use a chain wrench, I saw pics of another guy who bent like three different screw drivers and the metal jack rod thing...... use a chain wrench if using non air/powered tools.

yeah but that is because chiltons sucks... I just did my tb with that manual and decided to throw it away... dang chiltons... anyway, the pulley bolt removal tool fits into the pulley and has a hole in the middle of it so that you can put the socket in it still, I used it and it works great! I put it up against the chassis and that held it really well.

Edit; did not look at the pic so yeah, the tool would not work...

Yeah, the pulley tool doesn't work. I diduse addiction's suggestion. Itook two 7/16 x 2 inch Grade 5 bolts, stuck them in the holes, wedged a 3-footcheater between the bolts, ground, and body -- no welding necessary. That worked. I had to use a 6-foot cheater to loosen that damn bolt, but it all worked out. Thanks everyone for the input. Love this site!!

Ok here is how I did it without using any complicated methods or special tools...

1.) Remove everything you need to get to the pulley bolt and stuff (you already did that)
2.) Put the wheel back on, then turn the wheels all the way to the left
3.) Lower the car to the ground with the wheels turned to the left
4.) Use a big 1/2 inch or more extension that can extend past the fender (i think mine was an 18 inch extension)
5.) Put the car in 5th gear, and have someone stomp on the brakes

Its simple and it works.
6.) Use a big cheater bar and loosen the bolt!
