rev limiter
I just rebuilt my d16y8; new rings, bearings, seals, gaskets, water pump, belts, stage 2 clutch, slave cylinder, master cylinder, exhaust and a V-TEC controller. Yesterday leaving work I got into it a little and at 5,200 rpm's it was like the rev limiter kicked it. It did it in 2nd and 3rd. I was playing with the V-tec controller, but no matter what setting it was at it did it.
Also my exhaust is rattling against my short throw shifter, is that a common problem?

If the rev limiter kicks in at 5200 RPM in every gear, then i don't think there is a problem (assuming that the rev limiter is suppose to be at 5200RPM). The VTEC controller controls when VTEC will kick in and i don't think it can turn the rev limiter off. I know that you can have the PCM flashed to remove the rev limiter. Unless you are running performance internals and valvetrain, revving the engine higher than the rev limiter could cause major damage.
you probably just need to have some new hangers installed on your exhaust, maybe the ones there are rotten..... my exhaust broke off at the converter before, i ran it over wit the back wheels and it wedged itself under the car real good and also broke my shift linkage. get yer exhaust properly secured and it shouldn't rattle against your shifter.
NO, I installed it while I was waiting for the new paint to dry on my valve cover.
I just made a quick run to sonic and it climbed strong to 7K with no problem. I've got 2 more hrs of work, I'll see how it does on the way home.
Maybe it was just a glitch.
