fair enough. do you think it's a seriously bad idea to attempt this if i have no experience with cage building? what are the things that could be a safety hazard if not built properly? i fabricate things that seem to be alot more complicated than a cage so don't see the point of buying one if i can make it safely.

i think he means using "Safe" materials, being a good welder, and mounting to the right points on the frame, while useing the proper techniques....because crap welds, and crap aluminum will = crap.

No one has asked this yet. Why do you need a rollcage? Do you plan for this to be your DD? Are you going to wear a helmet everytime you drive the car?

I only ask these things because you dont want a rollcage in a DD.

If you get in a wreck and are not wearing a helmet you are most likely going to split your skull open.

If it is a track-only car and your going to wear a helmet then by all means build one, but have someone that knows what they are doing do it.

Just a thought. Take it or leave it.

i want a cage for the looks and because my new car has full harness belts and if i roll it i don't really want the roof to crush in on my head. do you reckon it would be better to lose the harnesses rather than go down the route of a cage? its going to be my daily driver. im open to all criticisisms and suggestions and thanks for all the feedback

i was planning on using chrome moly tubing and im a competent TIG welder, my main problem is knowing where to mount to the car though

if your doing it for looks that i wouldn't, because i don't think it is worth the risk to hurt yourself like windcalmer said, that cage will hurt you if your not wearing a helmet. and even tho they look cool, they aren't worth dying for.

O.K. yeah, dont do it. Not unless its a track only car. BTW how do you have your harnesses hooked in right now? Are they bolted to the rear seat bolts?

Also, the padding that is put on rollcages is not meant for your head to smack into it unprotected.

that's a terrible place to mount them. the strut bar isn't supposed to take that kind of impact
