Rough Idle and CEL Light
Ok so my buddy has a 97 integra ls (b18b1 i believe). Anyways last summer he noticed his engine temp was dangerously hot and didnt really pay much attention to it and sort of neglected it because it wouldnt do it all the time, so he says...Anyways one day he noticed fluid dripping down from the car and asked me to check it out and it was radiator fluid, what do you know we opened the hood and the rad hose had a huge bubble in it and was leaking out. Anyways we figured it happened because the thing that controls how much coolant goes in and out(totally blanking on the parts name lol but you all know what im talking about lol) so we replaced that too along with both hoses. Problem went away, YAY for awhile and suddenly his car starts to shake and the rpms jump and idle high. He also threw a cel, i pulled it and i forget the code number, but anyways we had trouble actually figuring out wat was wrong, but i remember the main reason why you would throw this code was if you neglected to change your oil, which he hadnt done in over 10k miles. So theres some history on the car o and his radiator hoses just did that same thing they did last time because my friend is a dumb *** and has been driving his car the whole time all these problems have been going on. So with all that info wht do you think is wrong im all out of ideas....

code number would help
Can you elaborate on the rough idle? How exactly does it happen... from the moment you start the car, when does the high idle occur? Does it happen every time the engine idles? How high is this idle? Is it steady high, or does it fluctuate? Any details you can think of will help.

yea wish i could get the code sorry, i would ask my friend to pull it but he is retarded wen it comes to cars. Car idles around 1.5k and doesnt go down and yes it fluctuates a couple hundred rpms wen the car is at a stand still idling.
Air leaking into the manifold will make it idle too high. Could be a bad gasket, stuck FITV or IACV, broken vacuum hose, etc. Probably much like the Civic where you can block the FITV and IACV air paths by covering the holes before the throttle plate with your fingers.
Or the throttle cable is simply too tight. If the idle is too high out of control for a while, you will get an IACV code. That does not necessarily mean the IACV is the problem.

Leaky head gasket due to overheating will cause idling problems, but it won't drive very well either. You're likely to get an unusual amount of white smoke out the tailpipe, possibly smelling like antifreeze. There is no code directly because of neglecting to change the oil; at some point the engine will just say "no mas" and you're not going anywhere.
