Rough/Low Idle Sometimes...IACV???
Hi everyone. I'm a noob, and this is my first post. I have a 2000 Civic DX hatch, and it just started to idle rough/slow sometimes, and the check engine light came on. The idle problem is not consistent, and doesn't appear to have a particular pattern. About 60% of the time, the car idles great. But the other 40%, the idle seems to drop, causing it to idle rough. Sometimes it'll clean out if I sit there, but sometimes not.
I did a search, and it sounds like it could be the IACV. I'm not very familiar with Hondas, so where is the IACV on that car?
If it's not the IACV, does anybody have any other ideas? Aside from the random low idle, the car runs great.
Thanks.

A lot of ties a low idle can mean just a few maintenance is required. Try replacing filters like fuel, air, and even the PCV valve. Also clean your throttlebody. In particular the butterfly flap. Make sure your spatk plugs, wires, cap and rotor are still in good shape. When was the last time you did the major tune up stuff? You might want to start off with the stuff that just requires cleaning, like the throttlebody, which is a very common culprit of rough idle.

Thanks for the info. I took it up to Autozone today, and got the code read. It's P0135, the primary O2 sensor. Looks like it's time to break out $80.

You didn't mention anything about a check engine light. If you ever get a code, reading it is a must before you go replacing random parts. Good thing you found out. The O2 sensor is actually a pretty minor repair job. Good luck.

hi
ima noobie here and need some help. i have almost the exact same problem except that the check engine light doesnt come on. whenever i press the clutch to get out of gear and slow down, the engine dies when the rpm reaches zero. is this normal?

Nope, definitely not normal. I would try everything I mentioned on post # 3. then come back and tell us how it all went. I had rough/low idle and it was just that. now it idles like new again.
thanks in advance
