Default RPM Too high on idle

My car was fine before the mechanic touched it.

My car's RPM was already high at around 1000-1300RPM during idle, but don't know what the mechanic touched exactly, but the RPM rose to 2000 during idle after he was done with it, and it places a lot of pressure on the engine making it louder, and hotter. Smoke actually came up, and I can't go pass certain speed without having to shake the car.

The shaking was originally fixed too...

The mechanic touched the cable to the acceleration and some other things I didn't paid attention to. Tried calling him, but can't get a hold.

Need the car for work this week, so probably go to his shop next week.

Anybody know what could possibly be the cause of the raise in RPM?

Normally, a raise in RPM indicates a vacuum leak IF there is no computer-controlled idle. What year is your car?
