Default Salvaged Title, 98 Civic

Okay, so I've got this 98 Civic LX with 145,000 miles on it. It's got a salvaged title and a rebuilt transmission. I just replaced the Rack and Pinion for just over 600 and found out I got a crack underneath my engine block and my exhaust has been pouring into my car.. I've also got a nice bashed in drivers side door which the insurance company gave me a nice 1200 for that I never had fixed .

I took it to be evaluated and the entire exhaust system will run me about 1200.

A guy at the auto shop is interested in purchasing it and may offer me a good price.. Trade in value for this sucker was only 500 at the dealer and I know my car is worth more than that.

What do you think would be a good starting price?
What would be your lowest base price?

I've done a salvaged calculation and I'm thinking about $1,200 for it.

Thanks in advance for responses!

So you are just asking to see what it is worth? And you don't tell us the mileage, AT/MT, etc? A cracked header can be replaced for less than 1200. The shop is wanting to replace everything since the header went, others should follow shortly.

Bashed in door, R title, I wouldn't even look at it. You will be lucky to see $750 if you sell it IMO.

I think I mentioned that it has 145,000 miles on it. I just got word back from the shop that they will only buy it if they can make sure the Title isn't "salvaged." I guess you cannot get the title licensed in Illinois since it was titled salvaged in Ohio. Has anyone ever heard of this?

I'm very sad about my Honda Civic. My family owns a 2013, a 2012, a 99 and my 98. Before that we owned a 92 accord that was an absolute champion.

My next car... Maybe a Honda

When a car is totaled, it becomes salvage title. Once you put it all back together, and go through a rigirous inspection, it can became rebuilt (R title). Each state is different with this.

Replacing the whole exhaust system you could consider using EX parts, which is a more conventional design with the cat converter underneath the car instead of built into the manifold. It offers slightly higher performance and also more options in aftermarket parts.
