Default Sensor

'96 Civic Ex...D16Y8, trying to determine what the sensor is at the rear of the block, just below the head surface, about midway betweeen the distributor and balancer ends. Single wire to the sensor.

Your temp sensor, send signal to your temperature gauge on your dash.

Correct me if am wrong

I think the OP is talking about the oil pressure switch. The switch turns on the "oil can" icon light on the dash when the oil pressure is too low. It's above the oil filter and taps into the passage that supplies oil to the head.

There also may be a knock sensor on the back of the block. That will be more toward the cylinder #1 end. It'll have a plastic socket for the single wire. The oil pressure switch just has an exposed pin.

Temperature sender is in the end of the head below the distfibutor.
