you could but you would need a way to get it threaded again so you can re-mount the shifter ****.

A short shifter is not only shorter in the length of the shaft, but the pivot point is changed also. You could do it and it will shorten the throw, but a short shifter is cheap enough that I would just go for the real thing.

short throw shifters actually make a piece on the shifter longerthats makesfor the shorter throw. save up and buy a good short throw shifter, less trouble and u'll be happier with the result.

yeah, i herd setting up the linkkage is a bitch though, and like i said i know its hthe cheap way, but for a few months i just want a shorter one and i was thinking just cut it. also, ill just buy a unaveral shift **** that has a set screw. id love to get a real short though, but even $40 i really dont have to spar at the moment, some issues have come up and i need to take car of them first.

You should just wait. It will be a lot harder cutting the shifter and getting it threaded, and for what, so you would have to lean to the right to shift, its not worth it.
