Signs of life!?!?
Okay, anyone who knows me, at this point, knows that I am having ridiculous problems. I have a new situation/theory. I originally posted a thread concerning oil burning issues and a potentially cracked block.
I pulled the head back off today and found that the head may very wellbe warped. I am actually amazed that no one thought to question me on this, but when replacing a head gasket after overheating issues, shouldn't you get the head resurfaced? I never did this and I think this may have been the cause of my oil burning and overheating issues initially.
The very last problem that I had was actually overheating and burning oil. I shut the car off after the needle hit about 3/4 up the temp gauge. The car would not fire after cool down. I found that a leaking coolant hose was spraying all over my fuel injector and intake electrical stuff, so I let it sit for about 6 hours and when I came back, it fired on the first try, but then it was PLUMING white smoke. It was not pluming during overheating, but all of a sudden it did some nasty smoking after restarting the engine.
Heres my theory ---
1) Replaced head gasket, did not resurface the head.
2) Minor oil burning issues due to a very small leak at the head gasket because I did not resurface the head.
3) Leak got bigger because I was dumping all over this car (85/90 in third gear, is that bad?[sm=smiley24.gif])
4) Bigger leak caused oil/water mixture on a small scale causing coolant to disappear slowly thus causing the overheating.
5) Overheating lead to warping the head even more than it was (if at all) and now I have oil in my coolant system because the oil pressure was higher than the coolant pressure thus forcing oil into the coolant system rather than forcing coolant into the oil system. (I don’t know the actual pressures of each system, correct me if I’m wrong)
6) Car overheats a final time, has 4-6 hours of cool down time which may have caused an even bigger leak in the system, thus the pluming of the white smoke?
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really want to keep this car, its fun to drive, has great interior and exterior and it would keep me sane if I could spend less money to fix it versus buying a different car.
QUESTIONS
Is there a definitive way to tell if it has a cracked block before I go and spend the money on resurfacing the head?
Should I say screw it and buy a reman. engine?
Please guide me, I’m baffled as to the best choice of action, I’ve got until Saturday to figure it out!
