Source for Rear Main Seal
I need a good source to buy an rear main oil seal for my civic. The local Honda dealer could not deliver. I found one seller on the web but they wanted $15 ship n handling for a $10 part. I said no.
83 honda civic 1500 NOK AH6924P 74x98x12 Honda 91214-634-004
Help is appreciated. I need to buy a rear main seal.
It was leaking a little oil and since I had the head off I decided to replace the main seal. How much work could that be? Oops. A lot of work thats how much. Well it was a learning experience. Now I know how to replace the transmission, axles, trans cables, engine mounts, starter motor, and a few other things. Useful for the future I guess.
After I got the seal out it didn't look like it was leaking. Of course it would now. lol. Live and learn. Maybe someone else was sloppy when they put oil in and poured it over the engine instead of into it.
Joe.

RE: Source for Rear Main Seal
No one gave me an answer so I posted a second time. Check the times.
I checked autozone and all they had was the metal outside kind, not what I wanted.
As for making posts about my messages without answering anything please don't do this. If you have something useful to say please do otherwise don't answer. thanks.

YOU DON"T NEED TO POST A SECOND TIME!!!
JUST REPLY TO YOUR OWN POST AND WRITE "BUMP"!!
And yes that is quite useful in this forum.
Otherwise everytime you make a second or third post instead of replying to your own post with the word "BUMP"
You'll get other members, as well as the moderators, letting you know that you only need ONE post per topic.

RE: Source for Rear Main Seal
Found one.
I went to Car Quest and they tried to get one for me. They brought out three and all three were too big. Then he typed in my old part number and told me the crossover part number was different from the replacement part number. So thats the probem. Everyone had the wrong part number in their databases.
He brought out another and it was a dead on match. So I am happy now. Both are NOK and the new one has a beveled edge on the inside to make it easier to start. They were the only supplier to bring out the nok brand name. I will try there first time, next time I need Honda parts.
Prices went from $10.16 to 25.83 Honda dealer was at 21.98 but back out.
