speedo does not work sometimes, and its not the needle sticking, because when the speedo doesnt work, the odometer doesnt either? Anyone have experience with this issue...instrument cluster related, or speed sender related?

 

That would be the speed sensor...

 

look at the tranny, towards the firewall. you will see a black thck cable. it looks like a 4gauge wire. and it plugs into the tranny. it sounds like the cable popped out. check that.

 

alright thanks ill look at that connection and wire today, clean up the connection and see if it helps

 

if that doesnt work, check the wire connections in the back of the cluster....(you will have to remove the whole cluster, not to difficult) sounds like maybey a power wire could be loose back there.

 

yes the two are related, and its your speed sensor that is going, mine did the same thing, eventually it will just stop working all together.

 

I have a twist for you guys, Speedo works intermittently, the times it doesn't work it only reads 30-50kph. the odometer works perfectelly. at times the needle jumps arround like a Jack Russle Terrier on crack.

I wouldnt suggest the VSS just yet. Does the cruise still work? Do you get any check engine lights? If no, then it is just the cluster. VSS troubleshooting Check this out, very nice.

 

I am gonna have to follow those steps and figure out if my speed sensor if faulty.. but i have a feeling it is the cluster on my car... but it couls be the connection cause it only really does it for a long time when it is wet out.

 

connection on vss looks immaculate...seems to work most on cold startup, and not as much once warmed-up
