Default speedometer is acting up

on my 92 civic, the speedometer stops working at times. the mileage thing stops working, and the other trip computer or meter thing that calculates how many miles driven, stops working as well...then it will work again. but being at "0" miles per hour for some time is kinda annoying....any ideas what that could be? how to change it?

Is the CEL ON?

Check the vehicle speed sensor and its connector on top of the transmission.

Check whether fuse 24 under the dash or the speed sensor connector is loose. If they are fine, then perform the speed sensor input tests detailed in the Electrical chapter of the 92-95 Civic manual located at the site in my signature.
