my 94 ex does the same thing but all i have to do is push in the trip and it resets the trip counter and starts working again. weird huh. good luck, i just figure its annoying but not worth spending money on a cluster. i mean who watches how fast your going anyway???

I have a '94 ex and my car did the same thing.I replaced the vss( about $100), had the gear in the tranny checked( was ok), finally ordered a used cluster from a company called DAP.Fixed mine, maybe it will help some of you.

i think any mechanic can go thru the procedure as posted by Deserthonda.
trouble is, in this day and age they usually dont do that.
they will just replace it.

you should have an ecu code, right ?

I have a 95' civic LX and it has an intermitent problem with the speedo. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. But the cruise still works when the speedo doesnt and I dont get any kind of engine codes. Judging from what was posted before, this leaves it as the cluster is the problem not the VSS??? Becuase the ECU and the TCU and the Cruise control all work so the only thing left is that the guage cluster is bad somehow. Can someone confirm this for me??
