Default starter clicks>I mig welded the manifold

Hi all,
I had a crack in my exhaust manifold very small so I thought I would just weld it. After welding my starter just clicks but wont turn over. I have replaced the starter and checked all the connections but nothing. I am thinking I shorted something out but what? any ideas are appreciated. 2001 LX

I have always been told to never weld on a car with the battery connected. Because you are grounding the welder to the body of the car or some where you can find a ground. With the battery connected you will be grounding threw all of the electrial system and you could burn the computer up or many other sensors.

+1,
whenever doing any kind of welding on a car, or doing anything that could alter the electrical system in any way, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. In fact, one guy I know will disconnect the battery any time he's working under the hood, unless he needs the motor running. Other then that, as soon as the hood is up, he disconnects the battery.

well like said welding on a car without unhooking the battery VERY BAD!!!!!!!!
you can get away with a weld far away from the battery most the time but with anything on front welding is bad for the computer system! id still recomend always unhooking the battery when doing any welding. thats alot of power flowing thru the car!
if you replaced the starter already did you have the old one tested?

and this might sound dumb but..... did you make sure your battery is fully charged? youd be suprised how many people thing they have bad problems when there battery is just dead... radio and everything still comes on fine but just not enough power to turn the starter over.
just get a friend with jumper cables and jump your car and see if thats it.... maybe your battery is just bad.

Ok, welding is bad for the computer, but that has little to do with the starter, start with the fuses. Jump power to the smaller wire at the starter and go from there.
