i have a 90 civic. my steering wheel shakes when i press the brake going 30mph&up i already change the rotors and got itbalanced some people tell me its the alignment but does it make the steering wheel shake hard like something is about to come off of it. can someone help me with this problem.

 

Since it's brake-related it really has to be a bad rotor. If your brakes drag, they can overheat and warp a perfectly good brand new rotor in a couple of miles. Drive for a few miles without using the brakes much, then get out and feel all the wheels overheating. If one wheel is getting hotter than the others that's a problem.

 

If the rotor was not mounted properly you will experience the shakes you describe. Rotor problems are about the only thing that will cause the symptoms you mention. If you did the work yourself, remove the rotor, clean off the mounting surface, remount rotor and test for runout. There should be no more than a few thousanths. If you had the work done, take it back and have them check it out.

 

Did you replace your pads at same time you replaced your rotors?

 

Yes, your rotors are warped.

 

I've got a 96 with this problem. I've had the rotors replaced once or twice and resurface twice. I gave up on having it fixed as they're warped again a couple months later. Since they don't stay flat, I don't see any reason to keep paying the guys to fix it over and over again, so I just have warped rotors. No other car I've ever had ever had warped rotors. Either I have a bum car or Civics are like that from the time mine was built. This and my bad tranny (3rd gear in an automatic went bad) that I replaced a few years ago left me banning Honda for another car, and I just bought a Subaru for my main car, my Civic is demoted to a backup car and "pickup truck" duties. I thought about giving it to my mom, but I don't want her driving a car, and they get lots of snow there, with funky brakes that refuse to stay fixed.

 

If the problem goes away and comes back i would check ur rear brakes to make sure they are working correctly and not over working ur front brakes, thats why they could be getting warped, If you have rear drums make sure they are adjusted right, remember just a little bit of drag.

 

when i got the rotors replaced i drove it and it still shakes. i dont know what is the part called but it is connected to the radius arm it has the rubber cover but anyways that part is ripped in half would that be the problem.

 

Are you talking about the radius arm bushing ? If that is ripped yeah that would most likely be ur problem.

 

is the bushing hard to take out and if so what tools to use to replaced it also is it safe to drive.
