Default Stiff Gas Pedal

Hello again!

Can someone tell me how to adjust the gas pedal stiffness? When I go to accelerate, it don't go in smooth. Instead, when I push on the gas, I have to apply more pressure to make it accelerate. When I do this, it forces me to push it too hard and it jumps in. Just really stiff. Any way to adjust?

Oh yeah, there are no kinks in the cable line either.

If you have to press hard to get off of idle, then it "pops" open, that's usually because there's a bunch of black gunk in the throttle body and the edge of the throttle plate. They stick together at idle.

when i got my civic, I had the same problem... all I did was clean the throttle body and that helped a little... but for the most part, they are just stiff pedals

Hmm..Maybe I'll have to clean that. But not just from idle, I could be driving down the road and want to accelerate. Does the same thing.

make sure there are no kinks in the throttle cable. you'll see it on top of the engine, you really cant miss it. just make sure its a smooth curve and not bent anywhere

I make a point of spaying 3M lubricant on my throttle cable & linkage at least twice a year.

Maybe I'll have to give that a try.

Also, if yours is a 96-00, I believe this was a non-essential recall issued for some models. Talk to the localHondadealer and they might replace your throttle cable for free!
