I have an intermittent electrical issue with my 96 DX 4 door civic. It just started up again so I decided to look on-line. What happens is while I'm driving and I use the brake, my head unit loses power for a split second and has to power on again (causing about a 10 second break in my music). I tried it at night and my head lights will dim a little bit at the same time this happens, again it is just for a split second. This happens when I push in the brake peddle about half an inch to an inch.

 

Check that the battery connections are secure and not corroded. Check that the ground wire from battery (-) is well connected to the frame and the engine/transmission. When the brake lights come on that causes a surge in the system that the battery needs to handle.

 

Yo may want to check whether 7.5A fuse 15 is blown under the dash. If that's fine, take the car to an auto parts store to have the alternator checked.
