Switching from auto to manual help
Hey guys, im kinda new here. I have a 04 civic ex 4dr. and yes i have an auto. im 18 and i wanna switch to a manaul. im not a machanic of anysort and when i do touch stuff in my car i usally break it. except electronics. now i need help to find what i need to get and how much labor would be to do it. would i go to any old car shop or should i look around to find which is best?, also would it be good for my car if i switch it over? im on my 2nd auto transmission and this one is slipping right now.

RE: Switching from auto to manual help
Funny. There was a guy here asking how to switch from manual to automatic. Maybe you can PM and discuss about trading the car.

It is not like plug and play when switching out transmission so there is labor and $$$ involve.

RE: Switching from auto to manual help
I know. Money isnt the problem here, i got plenty of it = ), just not enough for a new car. So i have like 4g's and i wanna switch over the transmission, if and when i do, will it feel like a stock transmission?

RE: Switching from auto to manual help
I can think of better way of spending 4gs then switching transmission. Please think hard before you go forward. You can sell your car and buy manual and still have 4gs. Hell, with 4gs you should be able to sell your car and get a Civic SI and you will end up with amanual and a much better motor.

RE: Switching from auto to manual help
to convert u need the following parts.
-manual trans.
-clutch kit
-manual fly wheel
-clutch and brake pedal assembly
-hydro. lines and fluid reservoir
-possibly axles (some auto's have different than manuals)
-shifter and linkage with all bolts
-possibly a starter (some auto's have different than manuals)
-manual ecu (will run with auto but will have cel light)
-possibly manual cluster
notes:you may have to leave the auto's shifter electronic components and leave in park so your key will come out of ignition.
Best thing to do is sell or trade your civic for a manual one or find a parts car.
because your civic is a newer model its going to be hard to find all the parts and expensive.

RE: Switching from auto to manual help
I would do what 88civic said. You could find a pretty nice 92-00 civic for cheap. I bought my manual 99 4 door for basically 1200 dollars ( I traded my 89 hatch which I bought for 700 and 500 dollars for it.). But that is what I would do.
