Default Tapping sound from brakes?

Tonight on my way into work I noticed when I step on the brakes theres a tapping or ticking sound. The faster the car is going the faster the tapping. Once I release the brake the sound stops. It sounds like its coming from the rear of the car. So I'm assuming its something to do with the brakes. Is this potentially dangerous to drive? I'm 1/2 hour away from home. What do you think it is?

manual
190K miles

Thanks!
J
