Torque specs, where do they come from?

Where exactly do those specs come form? Are they calculated or what?

The engineers that design your car also designate the torque spec. There is prolly equations that the engineers use, they are prolly long, complicated, and messy.

Hp * Rpm / 5252 = torque.

Same thing though, just on a smaller scale.

Power * mecahnical advantage with respect to distance traveled (rpm). Ft/lbs is ft/lbs no matter how you look at it.

Unless you mean where do they come up with the specs for tightening bolts and stuff, then I suppose it's just as tight as they think it will go before the sum'bitch breaks off.

is there like some kinda of torque spec quide with all the torque specs for civics?(such as specs for exhaust bolts, valve cover bolts, etc..)

Well any good manual will have the specs.



And yes, I did mean how do they come up with this crazy stuff...
