I have a 96' civic DX D16y7 and someone broke into my car and stole my distributor. When they did this they cut my wiring harness. My friend has an extra wiring harness and distributor from his 2000 civic dx. The only problem is the wiring harness from my 96 has one extra wire. It is a fat black wire bigger than the rest. Does anyone know what this wire is and is it possible to wire his distributor into my car and splice the new connector from his wiring harness into it. It all bolts up I just don't know what the extra wire is? Please help, thanks.

i'm pretty sure that wire is a ground wire for the distributor. the best thing for you to do is to get a service manual on both vehicle's and it will tell you which color wire is for what

 

i just bought one 4 or 5 months ago - they cost 230.
could have done an ebay (new) and would have been less -
but needed it fast to get to work.

i still have never heard of someone having a dist stolen
until now.
