Transmission problems

I own a 99 Honda Civic LX, 225K miles, manual transmission. Had the engine rebuilt a couple months ago. At the time also had the exhaust manifold replaced plus clutch replaced.

Honda mechanic warned me the transmission bearings were a little loose and that they are noisey. The tranny seems to run a little rough and is grinding/rattling when I drive, especially uphill.

I changed my oil today and when the car was in neutral with the clutch let out there was a grinding noise. When I pushed the clutch in, the sound went away. What are my options fellas???

Thanks for the help...

Option 1: Open up the transmission and replace bearings. It is not complicated you don't have to take all the little pieces of the transmission apart and fully rebuild it.

Option 2: put in a used transmission.

Option 3: Keep driving like it is. At some point the bearing will fail completely leading to major damage. The car will need to be towed and the whole transmission will have to be replaced.

A good input shaft bearing DIY is posted in this thread:
