transmission slipping

Default transmission slipping

ok i have a 1996 honda civic ex vtech coupe manual and i need help becasue my clutch has been slipping at greater speeds and i don't know whether or not to buy a new clutch or just see the tranny fluid. another thing i need help with is checking the tranny fluid it's actually underneath the car. can somebody help PLEASE!!!

Manuals do not slip when they're low on fluid. (Bad things happen, but not slipping). If the engine revs up when you floor it but the car doesn't go faster that's the clutch slipping. Also after you do that a couple of times it will smell like burnt brakes from under the hood. When you have those symptoms, you need a clutch job. Since the transmission fluid needs to be drained to do that anyway you really don't need to worry about it now.

Yes if the clutch is indeed slipping the clutch plate is worn out and you need to replace it. The hydraulic linkage almost never fails in a way that the clutch will slip. You can double check that and make sure that the lever from the cylinder on the outside of the bell housing is slack when the clutch pedal is not pressed.
